Usually the last thing on a college student's mind is a career. Most of us, whether in college now or long time alums, had more important things to worry about in between classes. Like parties, roommates and a cute lab partners. However, between the parties and getting your hot lab partner's number, you should think about what you want to do in life. I know what you're telling yourself, you went to college so you could get away from your parents hounding you about what you want to do in life. But even you as a college undergrad have that moment of realisation that graduation will soon arrive and the time has come to think about a career path.
At its basic level the real estate agent's role is to bring prospective buyers and Sellers together and to negotiate an outcome that is acceptable to both parties. Negotiation is definitely a key skill, and can be learned. No one is a perfect negotiator to start off with but the more times you do it the better you get at it, same as any other skill. You can also expect training from a prospective employer, and there are courses you can go on that can provide you with accreditation in your market. In reality you can probably expect to spend to hours in the classroom before you are considered a finance career fully trained real estate agent.
When you take classes for the finance world it can be inconvenient for you. You have to fit the classes into your schedule and you have to work around the classes. It is harder to train for a new career when you view more have to take classes.
Depending on your choice, you may need to hone your skills and acquire news ones. Taking a part-time or evening course whilst currently in your present job may be an option, if you need your salary to keep you going until you make a full transition. Also, whilst training, try to get work experience and freelance contracts. This will enhance your CV, help you achieve the level of proficiency necessary for a full career switch and increase your chances of meeting more people in the industry.
One thing to bear in mind is a real estate agent can be on call 24 hours a day. Buyers and Sellers may call at any time asking for an update, and you have to explain this and be courteous and professional when they do.
Most schools will hire someone who already has had experiences with teaching. You can try volunteering to local schools first. This will be a very helpful record to write into your resume. People who had teaching experiences are more likely to get the job.
Opportunities are everywhere in marketing now if you want to be in business for yourself. More letters after you name in most cases, simply means more student loans to work your way out of.
